Fancy cycling through Fátima and its surroundings? We’ll meet at 165 João XXIII Avenue. There, we’ll get ready with the bikes, helmets, and safety equipment for this adventure through one of the most spiritual regions of Portugal. Let’s go!
The route, which has a medium difficulty and covers 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) in total, will first take us through leafy forests toward Pia do Urso, an example of construction that preserves traditional stone architecture. The surrounding trails invite us to discover local legends as we pedal among houses in ochre, white, and blue tones.
We’ll then continue through the scent of pine trees and limestone rocks toward the Serra de Aire e Cadeeiros Natural Park. This stretch takes us to the village of Reguendo do Fétal, a true paradise for climbing enthusiasts. Would you ever dare to try one of its vertical walls? Here we’ll take a break to enjoy a typical snack.
Pedal by pedal, the route then leads us to São Mamede, where we’ll visit the Grutas da Moeda. Their set of stalactites and stalagmites, formed over thousands of years, looks like natural sculptures bathed in golden light. A great moment for a photo!
Lastly, we’ll get back on the bikes and head to the city of Fátima. As soon as we arrive, we’ll go directly to its emblematic Sanctuary in Cova da Iria to contemplate its basilicas, esplanades, and chapels, which tell the story of one of the most important Marian devotions in the world.
Finally, we’ll return to the meeting point, where we’ll say goodbye after a total of 5 hours.
