Serra do Faial Trail (5 km or 3.1 mi)
We'll begin our adventure by setting off for the Serra do Faial, where our 5 km (3.1 mi) hike will begin. For over 2 hours, we'll enjoy a magical landscape, which combines lush vegetation, mountains and native Madeiran flora and fauna.
You'll also have the opportunity to hike along the famous levada of Faial, which is more than a century old and is still one of the island's favourite places for tourists.
Machico Trail (6 km or 3.7 mi)
Once we're in the vehicle, we'll drive towards Machico, the first capital of Madeira. This historic town will be the starting point of our 6 km (3.7 mi) route that will take us through the Machico Valley and the surrounding forests for just over 2 hours.
Cornfields, vineyards, mimosas, eucalyptus and levadas are some of the surprises that await us on the trails around Machico.
Ribeiro Frio Trail (11 km or 6.8 mi)
Once we're all ready, we'll start our 11 km (6.8 mi) walking route through the trails and subtropical forests of the Ribeiro Frio Natural Park. During this 4-hour guided hike, we'll become familiar with the lush vegetation of the island and the characteristic Madeiran levadas.
As we explore the less-travelled areas of the forest, we'll get to appreciate the sounds of Madeira's native birds, such as the finch, and we'll enjoy the opportunity to admire the landscapes from the different viewpoints along our route. Hiking in this natural area is a unique experience!
Forest of Sao Gorge Trail (11 km or 6.8 mi)
On this 11 km (6.8 mi) route, we'll explore the hidden corners of Madeira for 3 or 4 hours and enter the immense green forest of Sao Gorge, one of the most lush in Europe. As we walk through the forest, we'll witness the varied flora of the island. We'll see everything from simple grasses and bushes to examples of ancient medicinal plants.
Along the hiking route you'll find a number of charming waterfalls and breathtaking viewpoints offering incredible views of the north coast of the island. Walking through Madeira's natural landscapes is an experience you won't forget!
