Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour
Fúquene Hiking & Boat Tour
We'll meet at 9 am at the port of the Fúquene lagoon. There we'll board a boat for an hour-and-a-half ride on this lake located at an altitude of more than 2,400 metres (7874 feet) above sea level.
During the trip, we'll pass by the island of El Santuario, where several Muisca temples were located. Legend has it that Fu, a god with the tail and head of a fox and a human body who protected the cannibal muzos, lived under the waters of the lake. During the tour we'll also see some of the birds that inhabit this beautiful spot, such as blackbirds and American coots.
Afterwards, we'll disembark and start a one-and-a-half-hour hiking route along the tracks of the old Fúquene railway. We'll walk to a tunnel that goes deep into the mountain while we tell you about the properties of the endemic plants.
After the walk, we'll have a delicious traditional dish of vegetables and rice. With renewed energy, we'll attend a reed basket-making workshop. There we'll see how the fibres are treated and how the raw material is collected on the river bank.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point, where we'll conclude the activity at 3 pm.
