Baltiysk & Yantarny Day Trip
Baltiysk & Yantarny Day Trip
Between 9 am and 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Kaliningrad and set off for the westernmost part of Russia, on the shores of the Baltic Sea.
The first stop on our tour will be Baltiysk, which is also known by its German name: Pillau. In Baltiysk, we'll take a 2-hour guided tour around this port city's most symbolic monuments. These include the 17th-century Pillau fortress, and the lighthouse, which is also a monument to Peter the Great.
Afterwards, we'll head to Yantarny, whose German name is Palmnicken. This coastal town, located just 40 minutes away from Baltiysk, is famous for its amber extraction and trade and even has a music festival dedicated to this semi-precious stone.
You'll see marvellous views of the coastline and the Baltic Sea as you eat a delicious lunch in a local restaurant. This lunch includes a first and second course, water and coffee.
Next, we'll head to the amber quarry where this fossilised resin, used in jewellery and medicine, is extracted. After visiting the quarry, we'll pause at the monument to the victims of the Palmnicken massacre, an atrocity committed by the SS as World War II was coming to an end in 1945.
Finally, after a 6-hour day trip, we'll return to Kaliningrad and drop you back at your hotel.
