Wawel Royal Hill Guided Tour
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Zbruch Idol on the path leading up to the castle, where we'll begin our journey through Wawel Hill's rich past, seen through the lens of the queens, rulers, saints, artists, and remarkable women whose contributions are so often left out of the standard historical narrative.
Once at the top, we'll explore 2 of Krakow's most iconic buildings: the cathedral and Wawel Castle. Rather than the usual royal overview, our guide will bring these monuments to life through the personal stories of the women who lived, ruled, loved, and left their mark here... from early medieval figures like Dobrawa and Emnilda to Renaissance queens like Bona Sforza and the legendary Barbara Radziwiłłówna.
As we wander through the grounds, we'll uncover other compelling stories along the way, including how a royal fascination with alchemy sparked the most devastating fire in the castle's history, and where the only bomb to fall on Wawel landed during World War II. We'll also stop at the famous Wawel dragon, with sweeping views over southern Krakow as a backdrop. Perfect photo opportunity!
Finally, after diving deep into the love, power, faith, fashion, and resilience against the backdrop of Poland's royal past for about 1.5 hours, we'll wrap up our tour on the hill and say our goodbyes.
