    Wielicka Salt Mine is one of the most outstanding sights to visit in Krakow. It's really worth visiting. The trip was very well organized, and the driver (Jordan Curry) was very professional, careful driver, kind and even joking person. He explained us interesting things not only about the excursion itself, but also about Krakow and the country in general And he was also aware of anything we could need. Conclusion: a great experience in all senses.

    Great visit to the salt mines. The underground structures are amazing and the guide explained everything very well. There are lots of stairs and we did more than 8k steps, so be aware if you have mobility issues. The place is very well taken care off and it doesn't feel claustrophobic.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of Poland's most popular tourist attractions. This network of tunnels has been in operation for 700 years, and is home to salt sculptures, brine lakes and underground chapels which have been built since then!

History

Having been in use since the 13th century, this 327-metre-deep (1,073 ft) system is among the oldest continuously used mines in the world. In 1978, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What to see in the Wieliczka Salt Mine

The inside of the mine is home to a wonderous selection of magnificent chapels, underground lakes and galleries, all carved into the salt by miners over the centuries.

St Kinga's Chapel in particular is of note, with an altar, candelabra and salt sculptures that are considered masterpieces of craftsmanship.

How to visit

The best way to visit the mine is with a guided tour. In fact, you are only allowed to enter the mine when accompanied by a guide. With Civitatis you can book your guided tour with transport included from Krakow.
