Balandra Beach Day Trip & Swimming with Sea Lions
Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Marina Asipona in La Paz. From there, we’ll set off on a catamaran day trip to a region declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our first stop will be at San Rafaelito, home to an iconic lighthouse and a sea lion colony. After a safety briefing, we’ll jump into the water to swim for 30–45 minutes with the curious sea lions. We’ll also be surrounded by colorful fish, and with any luck, we’ll spot manta rays, turtles, or dolphins.
Afterward, we’ll sail to Balandra Beach, a protected natural area famous for its shallow waters and red hills. We’ll stop so you can take photos of the iconic rock formation known as “Mushroom,” a symbol of Baja California Sur’s natural beauty.
We’ll continue to a beach with calm waters where we’ll disembark. While you relax under the umbrellas, we’ll prepare a delicious lunch to enjoy by the sea, featuring fresh fish ceviche, baguettes with cold cuts and cheese, fresh fruit, cookies, and chips.
On the way back to the marina, keep your cameras ready: it’s common to encounter pods of dolphins playing in La Paz Bay. Finally, we’ll say goodbye at the starting point 5 to 6 hours later.
Sea Lion Season
Due to wildlife protection regulations, water activities involving sea lions are restricted during the months of June, July, and August. If you take the tour during these months, we'll replace the swim with the sea lions with an extended 1-hour snorkeling session at a nearby reef, where you can discover the fascinating biodiversity of the Sea of Cortez and its colorful schools of fish.
