North Lanzarote Excursion
Discover the North of Lanzarote with this guided tour, an area full of captivating sights such as the Jameos del Agua, one of César Manrique's works.
Itinerary
Having picked you up at your hotel we will hit the road to the north of Lanzarote.
In the Mozaga muunicipality we'll pass alongside the "Monument to the Peasant", work of the local artist César Manrique, paying homage to the rural world. Just around the corner can be found Nazaret, where we will visit the house-museum Lag-O-Mar, the old residence of the Egyptian actor Omar Sharif. In this volcanic collection of caves, César Manrique designed a space where housing, swimming pools, terraces and gardens filled with cacti and palm trees intergrate perfectly with nature.
The route continues crossing the charming Valley of the Thousand Palms, next to Haría. A few minutes after we arrive at the villages situated at the extreme north of Lanzarote, and here we will drink in the views from the Riscos de Famara viewpoints, an area filled with cliffs and mountains where you can obtain fantastic panoramic views of the Chinijo Archipelago, made up of the islands of La Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara and los Roques. Around 2 pm we will then have free time to have lunch at your own pace around Famara.
Having eaten we'll visit an Aloe Vera farm to learn about the varieties and properties of this plant, commonly found in the north of Lanzarote. A little further south we will visit the famous Jameos de Agua - a natural space created as the cieling of a volcanic tunnel fell in. In this cave César Manrique designed a complex made up of a swimming pool, a restaurant and an auditorium, today one of the most recognisable points on the island of Lanzarote.
Finally we make our way to Tahiche to make an optional visit to the César Manrique Foundation. Here can be found the Casa de Volcán (volcano house), a daring and avant garde space designed by Manrique in which he lived for 20 years. From here we make our way back to the hotels, arriving late in the evening.
