    I highly recommend this experience: it's a perfect way to discover the city's most iconic sights and learn about its history through anecdotes and interesting facts. We took the tour in English with our guide, Joao, a true Lisboetan, who was knowledgeable and engaging. In addition to telling us the history, he shared local customs and traditions, allowing us to enjoy an authentic experience that continues long after the visit.

History

The Praça de Comércio was built in the late 18th century, following a devastating earthquake in 1755. This earthquake destroyed the country's royal palace, Paço da Ribeira.

Did you know...

In 1908, King Carlos I and his son were assassinated as they rode across the square in an open carriage. These events would lead to the end of the Portuguese monarchy and the introduction of a republic.
