Monument to the Great Fire of London Tickets + Audio Guide
Why Visit the Monument to the Great Fire of London?
Also known as The Monument or the Great Fire Monument, the Monument to the Great Fire of London is an incredible place to enjoy impressive panoramic views of the skyscrapers located in the financial district of the British capital.
With your ticket to the Monument to the Great Fire of London, you'll climb the 311 steps of its iconic spiral staircase to reach the top. Once at the top, you'll have access to a walkway overlooking the Tower Bridge area, as well as the golden fire sculpture that crowns The Monument.
Meanwhile, with the audio guide in English, you'll hear the story of the Great Fire of London in 1666, one of the saddest chapters in the city's history. It's estimated that a third of all London's buildings were destroyed, leaving more than 130,000 people homeless. Did you know that it started in a bakery? How did the fire spread so quickly? How did it manage to be extinguished? You'll find out all about it!
To commemorate this terrible episode in history, the architect Sir Christopher Wren and Dr. Robert Hooke created this great Doric stone column, 61 m (200 ft) high, crowned by a golden sculpture in the shape of a fire. Also, at the base of the monument, you can see bas-reliefs depicting the different stages of the Great Fire of London.
