Seringal Museum Tour
Tour Details
Interested in discovering the commercial past of Manaus? After picking you up at your hotel, we'll board a vehicle that will take us to the pier where a speedboat will be waiting for us. From there, we'll sail on the Río Negro in search of Vila Paraíso, where we'll find the Seringal Museum.
Upon arrival, we'll be greeted at the trapiche, the former loading dock. Here, we'll give a short introduction to the golden period of rubber trading in the region. This product was very important for the Amazons between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
We'll begin our guided tour of the Seringal Museum by exploring the noticeable differences between the homes of the settlers and workers. First, we'll step into the former colonel's house, adorned with period furniture that reflects the lavish lifestyle of the landowner.
Then, we'll see the rubber tappers' cabins, which reflect the rustic lifestyle of the people who extracted latex from trees under harsh conditions.
Afterward, you'll witness a demonstration of the latex process through its transformation into rubber. You'll get a firsthand look at how workers made cuts in the trees and smoked the product to create the material that would be exported to different parts of the world. This way, you'll explore the so-called transformarlo en goma Rubber Cycle—a period as golden as it was grim.
Finally, we'll start our journey back to Manaus and drop you off at your hotel after a total of 6 hours.
