Discover the nature and traditions of Mandalay on this unique tour: enjoy a dolphin spotting boat trip on the Irrawaddy River and watch the locals cooperative fishing!
Dolphin Watching & Fishing from Mandalay
On the day of the tour, we'll pick you up at 7:30 am and head to the pier in Mandalay, where a boat will be waiting for us. After a brief introduction from our English-speaking guide, we'll set sail down the Irrawaddy River.
We'll cruise down this important river, which flows from northern to southern Burma, until we reach the Sin Kyun community. Here, we'll disembark and meet some locals who will show us how to make the traditional bamboo hats that are so popular in the region. After an hour, we'll climb back aboard the boat and sail onwards to the Sein Pa Kone community. There, we'll indulge in a mouth-watering lunch of fish or chicken curry with vegetables made by the locals.
With a full stomach and happy tastebuds, we'll head back to the boat, where we'll enjoy an explanation on how dolphins live in the Irrawadday River. We'll then spend two hours watching dolphins swim and play from the boat.
During this time, we'll also approach a group of local fishermen who will reveal the secrets of traditional cooperative fishing. Learn how they cast their nets and help each other get the best catches!
After dolphin watching and fishing on the Irrawaddy River, we'll make our way back to the pier in Mandalay. On the cruise back, you'll have the option to visit the iconic Mingun Pagoda. Did you know this unfinished monument predates the foundation of the city itself?
The tour will come to an end at 5:30 pm at the Mandalay pier.
This dolphin watching and fishing activity on the Irrawaddy River may not always take place in the Sein Pa Kone community. Depending on the location of the dolphins, we may do this part of the itinerary in Mya Zun or Aye Kyun instead.
Please remember that dolphins are wild animals and there for unpredictable. Depending on currents, winds, weather conditions and other variables beyond our control, we may see more or less of them.
