My tour guide Keni was very knowledgeable of the history of the Michoacan area and its peoples. We stayed in Morelia, so it was quite the drive to get to the sanctuary. But our guide made the drive very fascinating with bits of information about everything from Blue Agave farms to special details about historical figures and statues we saw along the way. I would recommend taking the horses to go up to see the butterfly colonies. But the hike is worth it - so amazing!
