Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Trekking Tour
Activity Options
During the booking process, you can choose between the following options, depending on the trails in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta that you'd prefer to discover. All of them start from the Parque Principal in Minca, last 4.5 hours and include an English-speaking guide.
Here are the details of each option:
Coffee Plantations Trekking Tour
If you choose this option, you'll discover the heart of Minca through its coffee plantations. Before setting off, we'll give you a brief introduction to the history of these fields in the region and the importance of coffee and cocoa in the local culture.
Afterwards, we'll start walking towards a traditional farm, crossing trails of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and witnessing its impressive biodiversity. Along the way, we'll learn about the flora and fauna of this tropical rainforest.
Upon arrival at the farm, we'll learn about the artisanal process of cultivation and production of these emblematic products. We'll participate in the selection, grinding and preparation of coffee and cocoa, culminating with a delicious tasting of flavours.
After this experience, we'll return to the starting point in Minca, but not before making a stop at a viewpoint with panoramic views of Santa Marta and the Caribbean Sea.
Indigenous Trails Trekking Tour
If you choose this option, we'll explore the ancient indigenous trails and learn about the cultural richness of the Tayrona, an indigenous community that inhabited this area of the Sierra Nevada, considered a sacred territory.
We'll go deep into the jungle, and we'll tell you all about the ancestral worldview of the territory until we arrive at the house of an indigenous family. The owners will open the doors of their home to show us their way of life.
After this immersion in the indigenous tradition, we'll head to a waterfall, a perfect natural oasis to connect with the environment. Here, we'll stop for approximately 30 minutes for a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters.
Finally, we'll return to the departure point in Minca.
Waterfalls Trekking Tour
If you prefer this option, you'll learn about the history of Minca while crossing the rainforest of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and discovering the richness of its flora and fauna.
The first part of the route will take us to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area. For 30 minutes, you'll be able to bathe in its waters and enjoy a moment of relaxation in the middle of nature.
After refreshing ourselves, we'll continue the trail, exploring these jungle landscapes and observing birds and other animals characteristic of the Sierra Nevada. We'll arrive at Pozo Azul, one of the best known natural wells in Minca, where you'll have half an hour to relax and swim in its cold waters.
After enjoying the waterfalls and breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains, we'll return to the starting point in Minca, where we'll say goodbye. See you next time!
