Tour Details

At the scheduled time, we’ll meet in front of Fort Jesus to begin this food tour of Mombasa. Ready to discover the flavors of Kenya’s coast? The local cuisine is a unique feast shaped by centuries of cultural exchange between Africa, the Arab world, and India.

During the tour, we’ll stroll through the narrow streets of the Old Town to try everything from street food to the freshest seafood and traditional sweets. First, we’ll enjoy a delicious snack made up of mahambri (fried sweet bread), viazi karai (spiced potatoes), and ginger tea.

Next, we’ll stop at a street stall to taste crispy samosas, mishkaki (meat skewers), and the famous urojo soup, made with mango, turmeric, potato, and lemon.

We’ll continue the tour with a visit to Mombasa’s bustling fish market to see how locals choose the best catch of the day. There, we’ll have the chance to taste fresh seafood.

To cool off, we’ll stop at a drinks stall to try madafu (coconut water) straight from the shell. Then, we’ll finish on a sweet note with swahili treats such as halwa or coconut kashata, accompanied by a cup of kahawa tungu, the local coffee.

Finally, at this last stop, we’ll say goodbye after a total of 4 hours.
