Tebaida Berciana Tour
Tebaida Berciana Tour
La Tebaida Berciana is an area of the province of León with great historical and natural value that was declared a Picturesque Landscape and an Asset of Cultural Interest. To begin the tour, we'll meet at the indicated time in the parking lot of Montes de Valdueza.
First, we'll visit the monastery of San Pedro de Montes. This monastery is one of the most important in El Bierzo and was founded by San Fructuoso in the 7th century. Among the most impressive rooms of this monastery are the kitchen, the abbot's quarters, and the church.
After touring the monastery, we'll return to the parking lot of Montes de Valdueza, where you'll then have to follow the guide in your own car to head to Peñalba de Santiago. After a 15-minute drive, we'll arrive at this small village considered one of the most beautiful in Spain. You're sure to fall in love with its charm!
We'll start the tour of Peñalba by touring the Mozarabic church, a real gem of the region. Then, we'll take a walk through the charming cobbled streets of the village, where we'll see the typical houses with slate roofs.
Finally, after exploring the Tebaida Berciana for 2.5 hours, we'll end the tour enjoying the views offered by the viewpoint of Peñalba de Santiago.
Closing of Monuments
Please note that, if you take the tour on Sundays at 4 pm, the church of Peñalba de Santiago will be closed to the public. In this case, we'll admire the church's exterior architecture as we delve into its history.
Currently, the access road to Peñalba de Santiago is closed until March 2026.
