Montreal Free Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll begin our free tour of Montreal from the central Dorchester Square. Ready to discover the biggest city in Quebec? This province, located in eastern Canada, is French-speaking, so its architecture and culture are a blend of North American and European character.
We'll first head to the Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral. As we admire its façade, we'll see that the exterior architecture is very similar to that of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Its dome is also very similar, although in the case of the Canadian temple, it has a turquoise green hue.
We'll continue our walk through the Old Montreal area. This neighbourhood, located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, dates back to the 17th century, no less. The heart of this area of the old town is the Place d'Armes, a picturesque square where you'll see the neo-Gothic façade of the Notre-Dame basilica.
Continuing our stroll through Montreal's Old Town, we'll arrive at Place Jacques-Cartier. In this large square, you'll see Nelson's Column. The monument was unveiled in 1809, just four years after the death of the British admiral in the famous Battle of Trafalgar.
Nearby is the Champ de Mars, one of Montreal's most famous parks. Next to it is the imposing Lucien-Saulnier building, which housed the former Palais de Justice.
Finally, after a total of 3 hours, we'll finish our free tour back at the meeting point.
