Mussomeli Walking Tour
Mussomeli Walking Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the Mussomeli Castle, or castello Manfredonico, where we'll begin a guided tour of Mussomeli, a beautiful town situated right in the heart of Sicily.
Did you know that Mussomeli played an important role in medieval times? After introductions, we'll tell you all about the history of the castle while admiring its imposing façade and fortified walls.
Next, we'll go on a half-hour stroll to reach the historic centre of Mussomeli. As we walk through the narrow streets, we'll discover its churches, palaces and artistic beauty. We'll stop in front of the Church of Saint Ludovico, locally known as the Chiesa Madre, built between the 17th and 18th centuries. You'll be enchanted by its majestic and refined belfry!
Then we'll check out the Clock Tower of Mussomeli, which dates back to the 16th century but was almost completely restored in the early 20th century. By the 19th century, the tower was equipped with a huge three-sided clock that still stands today, making it possible for residents to tell the time from any part of town.
The route will take us to Palazzo Sgadari, which transformed into a prison in the 19th century, and currently houses the Archaeological Museum of Mussomeli. We'll also visit Palazzo Trabia and the exteriors of churches such as Santa Margherita, Providence and Monti.
After three hours, the tour will conclude near the Chiesa di San Giovanni.
