Nagoya Guided Tour
Tour Details
After meeting at the station in Nagoya, we'll start this guided tour of the castle, the symbol of the city and a masterpiece of Japanese feudal architecture.
In front of the stunning fortress, we'll tell you about its origins. Did you know that the Nagoya Castle was built at the beginning of the 17th century under orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate? And that it played a crucial role in Japan's unification? You'll learn all about it on this tour!
With your guide, you'll explore the castle's terrains, from its imposing stone walls to the reconstructed rooms. We'll discover its strategic design, the art of construction during the Edo period, and the samurai who served here.
Inside the Honmaru Palace, we'll admire the exquisite sliding doors with gold leaf and the painted murals that reflect the grandeur of the warrior class of Japan. You'll also stroll around the castle's calm gardens, where you'll see different flowers, wide moats, and watchtowers.
After exploring the castle, we'll continue our tour by walking toward Kinshachi Yokocho. This lively district, famous for its cuisine, has the best culinary specialties in Nagoya.
We'll follow the guide through the two main areas of Kinshachi Yokocho. The Yoshinao Zone, inspired by the samurai and the elegance of the Edo period, is where dishes like miso katsu (pork chop with red miso sauce), kishimen (flat udon noodles), and hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice) are served.
While in the Muneharu Zone, which represents the more modern side of Nagoya, you'll find trendy cafés and casual restaurants that serve desserts and snacks.
Finally, we'll say goodbye after 2.5 hours in this part of the city, so you can continue discovering Nagoya at your own pace.
