On this tour, we'll uncover the most interesting legends and stories that Oxford's pubs hold as we walk through the centre of the world's most famous university city.

Tour Details

Our tour will start at Carfax Tower, in the heart of Oxford. From there, we'll take a fun route for history lovers.

Did you know that J. R. R. Tolkien used to go to one of these pubs to discuss Middle-earth with his friends? Or that one of Oxford's pubs used to be a zoo?

Accompanied by a guide who specialises in Oxford's history, we'll learn about some of the lesser-known legends of the pubs of this university city.

We'll visit some of the oldest pubs in this British city, including the Swindlestoke Tavern, The Chequers, The Bear, The Turf Tavern, The King's Arm or Lamb and Flag.

The tour will end at The Eagle and the Child, a traditional pub that boasts of having been a regular meeting place for important personalities from the world of literature who lived in Oxford.
