Gatun, Agua Clara & Pedro Miguel Locks Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Panama City. Once we're ready, we'll set off to the most admirable engineering feat on the American continent, the Panama Canal. Let's go!
After about 20 minutes, our first stop will be the Pedro Miguel locks, one of the three that are in the Pacific Ocean area of the canal. Here, you'll witness how the ships ascend and descend with pinpoint accuracy thanks to a system of gates that works almost exactly as it did in its early days.
We'll continue by crossing the Soberanía National Park, where, if we're lucky, we'll see some local fauna. After a 1-hour journey, we'll reach the Agua Clara locks, a source of pride for the expansion of the Panama Canal, inaugurated in 2016 in the Caribbean area.
These titanic structures allow the passage of the New Panamax ships, which can transport up to 15000 containers. Here, for 15 minutes, we'll enjoy an introduction video that will reveal the secrets of its construction and operation.
Our last stop will be at the Visitors Center of Gatun, where we'll admire the original locks, which have been working since 1914. Among the sounds of engines, you'll understand the extent of the initial dream that united two oceans.
We'll finish our day trip by crossing the Atlantic Bridge, the tallest bridge of the Panama Canal, standing at 256 ft (75 m) tall, while the views of the Gatun Lake stretch out in front of our eyes.
Afterward, we'll enjoy a snack before returning to the hotel, where we'll say our goodbyes after 5 hours.
