Ebro Delta 2026 Solar Eclipse
The Ebro Delta, One of The Best Places in Catalonia to View The Eclipse
On August 12, 2026, the most anticipated astronomical event of the year will take place. On that day, the Moon will completely obscure the Sun.
Unlike other parts of Spain, where the eclipse will be partially visible or cannot be seen at all, the Ebro Delta lies within the path of totality. This means that in this area of the province of Tarragona, the eclipse will be fully visible for approximately 1.5 minutes.
The partial eclipse will begin around 7:30 pm. The absolute climax, that is, the total phase of the Sun’s occultation, will occur around 8:30 pm. The sky will darken almost as if it were night, the temperature will drop slightly, and the landscape of the Ebro Delta will take on a truly special atmosphere. How will its flamingo colony react to this unique phenomenon? You can find out with us!
Tour of the Ebro Delta to Watch The Eclipse
Welcome to the Ebro Delta Nature Reserve! We’ll meet at the SEO BirdLife hut and, from there, walk toward the heart of the reserve.
First, we’ll head to a lagoon, where we’ll visit the Riet Vell rice farm. Then, as it gradually gets darker, we’ll go to an observatory to photograph native birds and see how they begin to change their behavior in response to the shifting light.
Afterward, we’ll walk back to the meeting point. There, you’ll get into your own vehicle, and following the guide’s car, we’ll head to the Tancada Lagoon, one of the most beautiful spots in the Ebro Delta! We’ll stop at this special place to watch flamingos in their natural habitat.
Once we’ve taken plenty of photos, we’ll head to the best spot to view the eclipse. We’ll put on our certified protective glasses and get ready for the most anticipated moment: observing the total solar eclipse.
We’ll witness how the light in the Ebro Delta gradually changes. Plus, if conditions are favorable, we’ll be able to observe how the flamingos and other birds react to this astronomical phenomenon. It’s not every day you get the chance to see something like this!
Finally, we’ll conclude the experience by watching the solar eclipse reach its peak over the Trabucador sandbar. It will be a unique spectacle where the landscape, wildlife, and astronomy come together to offer us unforgettable images.
We’ll wrap up this 3-hour tour at Trabucador Beach.
