    I initially booked the tour in English by mistake. Luckily, Paloma was incredibly helpful and proactive, and she helped us switch to her Spanish group right then and there :) The tour was wonderful despite the torrential rain. Paloma was always positive and cheerful, which cheered everyone else up as well. She sent us a list of restaurants, and one of them actually became our favorite in Porto. Paloma: 10/10

Located in the historic centre of Porto, São Bento Station truly is an architectural gem and an icon of the city.

History

Built in the early 20th century, the São Bento Railway Station was built on the site of a former Benedictine monastery. The azulejos tiles inside the station, of which there are over 20,000, were created by artist Jorge Colaço. These tiles depict scenes of battles, popular festivals, picturesque landscapes, and iconic national figures, offering a fascinating journey through Portugal's history

Given its central location, it's likely you'll wander past the station a couple of times during your stay in the city—don't forget to pop inside to see the iconic azulejos tiles. To gain a deeper insight, we recommend seeing the station as part of a guided tour of the city.
