Day Trip Details

At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your downtown Salt Lake City hotel and head west toward the Great Salt Lake and the Bonneville Basin.

Our first stop will be Great Salt Lake State Park, where we'll explore the shoreline of the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere. With salinity levels 2 to 7 times higher than the ocean, it's a truly unique body of water. We'll stop by the visitor center to learn about the lake's geology and its origins as a remnant of ancient Lake Bonneville, which once covered a third of Utah. Keep your eyes peeled for migratory birds... the lake is a major stop for millions of them.

From there, we'll continue to the Tree of Life. This 87-foot-tall (27-meter) sculpture was created by Swedish artist Karl Momen in the 1980s as a tribute to Utah's stark desert landscape. Built with 225 tons of cement, nearly 2,000 ceramic tiles, and natural rocks and minerals native to Utah, it rises from the flat white emptiness like a colorful mirage. Get your cameras ready, this one's a must!

Next up is the highlight of the trip: the Bonneville Salt Flats. Stretching over 30,000 acres, this vast expanse of white salt crust was formed when ancient Lake Bonneville dried up thousands of years ago. We'll walk across this otherworldly landscape, take in the panoramic views, and dive into the history of the Bonneville Speedway and its legendary land-speed racing legacy. You'll have plenty of time to snap photos and take short walks across this surreal terrain.

After that, we'll hop back in the vehicle and head back to Salt Lake City, where we'll drop you off at your hotel. The tour lasts approximately 6 hours.
