Day Trip Details

We'll begin this day trip to Suchitoto after picking you up from your hotel in San Salvador. Once ready, we'll embark on a 1.5-hour  journey to our destination. Let's go!

Along the way, we'll learn about the colonial history of Suchitoto and its repopulation efforts after the civil war. Upon arrival, we'll be welcomed by the elegant Central Square, dominated by the Church of Santa Lucía, a neoclassical gem built in 1853. We'll stroll for about 50 minutes through the cobbled streets of the town, among tiled houses and wrought-iron balconies.

After touring the town, we'll head to a viewpoint overlooking Lake Suchitlán, a beautiful refuge for migratory birds. Ready for one of the highlights of the day? We'll visit a local establishment where we'll take part in a 1.5-hour indigo workshop.

With the materials and tools ready, the artisan will give us an introduction to the history of this ancient indigo dyeing technique. We'll learn how the pigment is obtained from the leaves and watch a demonstration of how the ingredients are mixed.

Then it will be time to get our hands dirty as we each fold and tie our handkerchief or bag, applying stamps with local motifs. To create the piece, we'll dip it into the mixture to see how the greenish liquid transforms into an intense blue.

After the workshop, we'll head to a local stall to try pupusas and other products as a snack, before lunch at a restaurant facing the lake. You can enjoy a meat or fish dish accompanied by rice, salad, ripe plantain, a piece of seasonal fruit and a drink. Bon appétit!

Feeling refuelled, it will be time to head to the shores of Lake Suchitlán for a 1.5-hour boat trip, sailing among islands covered in vegetation. At some point, we'll choose an island to disembark and have an interpretive talk about birds.

Finally, on our return to Suchitoto, we'll stop at a café for a coffee before heading to San Salvador. We'll conclude this 12-hour day trip by dropping you off at your hotel after an intense and unforgettable day!
