Colombian Caribbean Cooking Class
Class Details
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Santa Marta. From there, we'll go to our workshop, where the cooking class will begin. Aprons on, chefs!
Upon arrival, a local chef will greet us to explain the preparation of three emblematic dishes that characterize coastal cuisine in Colombia. Together, we'll learn the secrets behind the Colombian Caribbean's rich seasoning. We'll also learn about the history and tradition surrounding these culinary delights, adding an educational layer to our experience.
First, we'll choose whether to make traditional hot buns with caramelized sausage—a bite full of flavor—or the iconic egg arepas, which are always crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and a staple of the Colombian coast.
For the second dish, we can choose between a refreshing fish salpicón with green guineo patacones, an explosion of Caribbean freshness, or a pork rice apastelado, a classic rice dish that's a gem of local gastronomy.
Then, to end on a sweet note, we'll make a boli, short for “bolita de hielo” (ice ball). This type of ice cream is usually made from natural fruit juices that are poured into small plastic bags and frozen. Once frozen, they're ready to eat—the perfect way to beat the heat in the Caribbean!
At the end of the class, which lasts about 2 hours, we'll have the pleasure of tasting the fruits of our labor, savoring each of the dishes prepared.
Afterward, we'll take you back to the starting point, where we'll say goodbye after a total of 3 hours. See you next time, chefs!
