Zona Bananera Day Trip
Zona Bananera Day Trip
At 8 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Santa Marta and drive to Zona Bananera: a Colombian municipality in the Magdalena region that's famous for its vast fruit plantations.
We'll visit different places in the municipality such as Riofrío, Orihueca and Sevilla. All of them have large banana plantations, where we'll learn all about this delicious fruit's growth process.
Next, we'll see other parts of Zona Bananera that are dedicated to banana cultivation. We'll also learn about the incredible impact that the arrival of the railway and banana plantations had in this part of Colombia.
Our next stop will be the United Fruit Company factory. Here, we'll look around the facilities of the factory and learn about the cultivation and export of Colombian bananas.
After visiting the factory, we'll go to a local restaurant and have a typical Colombian lunch. The menu will include a selection of delicious local delicacies. Many of the recipes will feature fruits from Zona Bananera as the main ingredient.
Once we've eaten lunch, we'll return to your hotel in Santa Marta, where we expect to arrive at about 4 pm.
