Lastarria & Santa Lucía Hill Tour
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll meet at the exit of the Santa Lucía metro station, next to the National Library. Are you ready to explore one of the most beautiful areas of Santiago, Chile?
First, we’ll tell you about the founding of Santiago by Pedro de Valdivia in 1541. After learning about its history, we’ll climb Santa Lucía Hill. Did you know that this place was a stone quarry until the late 19th century?
We’ll begin our ascent up the hill while discovering its European-inspired architecture and various vestiges of Chile’s colonial past. As we climb, we’ll enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Santiago and take in the historic Castillo Hidalgo and the famous Terraza Neptuno, among other spots steeped in history.
After enjoying the views, we’ll head down from Santa Lucía Hill to embark on a walking tour of the Lastarria neighborhood, considered one of Chile’s main cultural, gastronomic, and tourist hubs. We’ll reveal why this area is so beloved by both locals and visitors!
As we stroll through its charming streets, we’ll pass by the Veracruz Church, built on the site where, according to tradition, the founder of Santiago once lived. We’ll also walk past the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM) and the University Palace, one of the most iconic and historic buildings of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
After a 1-hour-and-45-minute walk, we'll conclude the tour at this final stop.
