Day Trip Details

Ready to spend a day in the nature around Santo Domingo? After meeting at the Acropolis Mall car park, we'll head southwest in search of the municipality of San Cristóbal.

We'll embark on a 1.5-hour road trip, during which we'll stop for a light breakfast, including a croissant and juice. Then, passing through reed and coffee plantations, we'll reach the viewpoint of Los Cacaos. There, we'll take a moment to enjoy the first panoramic view of the day with the Nizao River, which glides like a jade border between hillsides covered with cocoa and avocado trees.

Then, we'll descend in search of the Los Cacaos pool, where we'll spend an hour enjoying the crystal-clear waters that filter through the rocks and take on a turquoise tone that looks like something out of a dream. The orchestra of cicadas and the humidity of the jungle will make it clear that we are already in the green lung of the municipality.

With our appetites whetted, we'll go to a small local restaurant to enjoy a typical Dominican lunch consisting of meat, rice, beans, salad and water.

Afterwards, we'll resume our adventure and, in barely half an hour, we'll arrive at the Aguacate dam. Located on the course of the Nizao River, this reservoir was built to regulate the flow of water to the Jigüey Dam and to protect the surrounding agricultural areas.

We'll spend 15 minutes admiring the stillness of the landscape and taking pictures of this oasis guarded by lush mountains. Then, we'll return to the road and embark on a 1 hour and 45-minute drive to the La Neverita pools. There, we'll discover a set of natural pools, sculpted by the constant passage of water over the rocks.

After 1.5 hours of free time, and plenty of dips in the water, we'll begin our journey back to Santo Domingo, where we'll say our goodbyes at the starting point after 12 hours in total.
