Ohrid Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Café & Bookstore Lette in Skopje to begin this day trip to Lake Ohrid, a World Heritage Site that will captivate you from the very first moment. Let's go!
After a journey of 2.5 hours, we'll reach the southwest of North Macedonia to visit our first destination: the Bay of Bones Museum. This curious complex on wooden platforms recreates an ancient Neolithic settlement built over water. You'll walk on its walkways for 45 minutes to discover how its ancient inhabitants once lived.
We'll continue our trip toward the archaeological site of Plaošnik. Here, you'll embark on a 45-minute guided tour to explore the remains of a Paleochristian basilica from the 5th century and other Byzantine structures. From here, the views of Ohrid Lake are stunning.
Then, we'll visit the Church of Saint Sophia, one of the most important Orthodox churches in the country. In its interior, you'll admire exceptional Byzantine frescoes that have survived centuries of history. They will leave you speechless!
Afterward, we'll head to another iconic monument in Ohrid: the Church of Saint John at Kaneo. This small 13th-century church, located on a promontory on the lake, is probably the most recognized image of North Macedonia. Its location and architecture make it a must-visit.
After this cultural immersion, you'll enjoy 3 hours of free time in the historic center of Ohrid. You'll have the chance to stroll along its streets at your own pace, have lunch next to the lake, and even go on a boat ride in its crystal-clear waters.
Lastly, we'll regroup at the agreed point to return to Skopje. Finally, we'll drop you off in front of the memorial arch of Porta Macedonia, right in the city center, after a total of 9 hours.
