Pushkin Day Trip by Train
Pushkin Day Trip Itinerary
Having picked you up at your hotel, the tour makes its way to the Saint Petersburg railway station, take a train to Pushkin, famously known as “Tsar’s Village”. Formerly called Tsarkoye Selo, the town was built as a summer residence for the Russian Imperial Romanov family and where foreign monarchs would stay when they visited the country.
From the Tsarkoye Selo train station we make our way by public transport to the Catherine Palace complex, constructed by the Tzarina Catherine I. After admiring its famous gardens, we'll head into the palace to marvel at the splendour of Imperial Russia.
And during the tour we will, of course, visit the jewel of the majestic palace: the 'amber room', a hall covered from top to bottom in rococo amber panels and fit to rival in grandeur anything the found in the great French palaces. Although the original hall was sacked by the Nazis, the careful replica which replaced it is just as impressive.
With the tour of the palace over, you'll have free time to explore the gardens at your own pace (if weather permits), and with your curiosity sated the guide will accompany you to the train stations with instructions on how to get back to your hotels or wherever in St. Petersburg you prefer.
