Lake Suchitlán Sunset Tour
Tour Details
We'll meet at the indicated time at Casa 1800 de Suchitoto to head to the nearby port of San Juan. There, our adventure will begin as we board the boat that will take us to sail across Lake Suchitlán in the last hours of the day. Let's set sail!
During the crossing, we'll navigate the calm waters of this artificial lake, which is not only the largest reservoir in El Salvador, but also home to hundreds of endemic bird species.
This body of water originated in the 1970s, after the construction of the Cerrón Grande Hydroelectric Power Plant. We'll tell you how it has become one of the most diverse ecosystems in the area as we go in search of El Embalse Island.
When we reach the island, we'll spot the remains of a light aircraft that crashed in 2014. There, we'll disembark and explore the paths that will take us to strategic points from where we'll have a privileged view of the sunset over the lake and the small mountains that surround it. In addition, we'll share with you the details of the tragic event of the plane crash as we see it up close.
If you wish, you can get yourself a corn-based alcoholic drink called chicha—but be careful, it's strong!
Afterwards, we'll sail back to the port of San Juan, saying goodbye at this point after a 45-minute to 1-hour tour.
