Puerto Almanza Tour + Martillo Island Penguin Watching
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we’ll meet on Avenida Prefectura Naval. Once everyone has arrived, we’ll board a bus and leave Ushuaia behind to begin our tour to Puerto Almanza, famous for being a fishing village and for its king crab catch.
During the journey, we’ll enjoy views of the Olivia River, the Tierra Mayor Valley, and the impressive Andes Mountains. At one point along the route, we’ll enter a winding road surrounded by lenga and ñire forests and peat bogs that flank the Lasifashaj River. It’s the perfect place to appreciate the contrasts of Tierra del Fuego!
Once at the pier of Puerto Almanza, we’ll board a rigid inflatable boat to sail along the legendary Beagle Channel for 30 minutes until reaching Martillo Island. We’ll stop for 40 minutes in front of the island and, from the boat, enjoy the penguin-watching experience.
It’s no coincidence that a colony of Magellanic and Gentoo penguins lives here, as the island offers three essential conditions: protection from predators, ideal ground for nesting, and food very close to their nests. You’ll see their natural behavior in the wild for yourselves!
Finally, we’ll return to Puerto Almanza, where we’ll board the bus that will take us back to the starting point. We’ll say our goodbyes there after a total of 5.5 hours of touring.
