Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet at Domplein, 3512 in central Utrecht. From here, we'll begin this walking tour of Utrecht in which we'll see the city’s most iconic landmarks and hidden gems, with plenty of surprises along the way.

Our adventure begins at Dom Square, where we'll learn all about how Utrecht was founded. We'll marvel at the stunning Dom Tower, a striking example of Gothic architecture, and the towering St. Martin’s Cathedral. Can you guess how tall the tower is?

From here, we'll step into our first secret spot—a hidden garden. As we wander through this peaceful retreat, keep an eye out for the numerous images of Saint Martin scattered throughout the garden. We'll also see a statue of a famous Dutch figure—can you guess who it might be?

Next, we'll head to Utrecht’s renowned canals. These aren't just any canals; Utrecht's waterways are unique, and we'll find out exactly why as we delve into their history and purpose. We'll then head towards Square Neude, one of Utrecht's most vibrant and well-known squares. Fun fact: it even features on the Dutch version of the Monopoly board! As we explore, you'll learn about the rich history behind the buildings surrounding the square. While there, we'll also taste some mouth-watering local cheese.

Our next stop is the impressive Utrecht Public Library, a building steeped in history. As we admire its beautiful interior, we'll discover its fascinating past and what the building was once used for. From here, we'll wander down Zakkendragerssteeg, a narrow street with a long history. Our guide will share tales of its significance as we make our way through this charming part of town.

Then, it's time to visit a quirky spot—a beer café that was once a hidden church. As we explore this unique building, we'll hear all about its intriguing past. After that, we'll visit another hidden church with an incredible story. Without giving too much away, let's just say that someone locked themselves inside for many years... All will be revealed in due course!

To finish the tour on a more relaxing note, we'll explore one last hidden garden, a peaceful oasis that offers a serene escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Finally, after between 1.5 and 2 hours, we'll bring the tour to an end back at the starting point.
