Hornøya Island Boat Ride + Bird Watching
Activity Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Vardø ferry terminal and hop on a boat to begin our cruise along the icy waters of the Barents Sea. The boat's heated interior, perfect for winter, and spacious deck, ideal for tours in summer, will allow you to enjoy the experience in total comfort!
We'll sail towards Hornøya Island, home to one of the largest colonies of seabirds in Norway. During the tour, we'll observe species such as the striking King Eiders, the elusive Steller’s Eiders or the majestic long-tailed ducks. We may also spot the impressive white-tailed sea eagles, which dominate the skies with their elegant flight, and fulmars, gliding masterfully over the waves.
Among the cliffs, we'll spot the charismatic Atlantic puffins with their unmistakable brightly coloured beaks, as well as the numerous guillemots, which nest on the rocks in large colonies.
Beyond the cliffs, the open waters offer a natural spectacle like no other. Did you know that this ecosystem is home to an astonishing biodiversity? Every moment of this voyage allows you to admire the beauty of the Arctic at its best, from its marine fauna to its landscapes sculpted by nature over millennia.
We'll also learn about the history and ecological importance of Hornøya Island, declared a Nature Reserve in 1983. We'll explore its wonders with the utmost respect for its fragile balance, ensuring a responsible and enriching whale watching experience.
After 2 hours of sailing in this corner of the Arctic, we'll return to the ferry terminal, bringing our boat trip to an end.
