Why Visit the Leopold Museum?
The Leopold Museum is home to one of the largest displays of modern Austrian art, thanks to the collectors Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold. Since the 1950s, this couple has been collecting over 8,000 artworks from Austrian artists from the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
With your ticket to the Leopold Museum, you can see the historical evolution of art in Austria, from the atmospheric impressionism, the Jugendstil, to the expressionism through the artworks of important artists.
During your visit, you can admire the permanent exhibition Vienna 1900, which showcases the largest collection in the world of the Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele. Among the most famous pieces of art, you'll find the Self-Portrait with Chinese Lantern Plant and Portrait of Wally.
You'll also see masterpieces by Gustav Klimt, like Death and Life, or the landscapes of On Lake Attersee and A Morning by the Pond. Plus, the most extensive international permanent exhibition on Oskar Kokoschka, another pioneer in the expressionism movement. Among the collection, you'll admire his Self-Portrait, One Hand Touching the Face, or Tre Croci-Dolomite Landscape. Lastly, you can see some artisanal pieces by the Wiener Werkstätte.
