Aveiro & Arouca Geopark Tour
Aveiro & Arouca Geopark Tour
At 9 am, we'll meet at Largo do Rossio and board a minibus ready to start the tour. We'll leave Viseu behind and head northwest in the direction of the Arouca Geopark. The journey will take us about an hour and a half.
Exploring this unique natural site, surrounded by the impressive mountain ranges of Freita, Montemuro and Arada, you'll be fascinated by one of its most famous features: the parideira stones. We'll learn all about this strange geological phenomenon that produces stone bricks from a large "parent" rock. We'll also discover how popular tradition has turned this place into a symbol of fertility.
The second stop of our tour will be in Aveiro, also known as the Venice of Portugal for its beautiful canals. Here, you'll have three hours of free time to explore the sights and enjoy some of the delicious local food. We recommend strolling along the canals to see the famous "moliceiro" boats, an icon of the city. Did you know that in the past they were used to transport salt and seaweed?
The Misericordia Church, with its tiled façade, the Art Nouveau buildings and the cathedral are also must-see landmarks in Aveiro. Don't forget your camera!
We will finish the tour at 5 pm back at the starting point in Viseu.
