Acqui Terme Guided Tour
Acqui Terme Guided Tour
At 9:30 am, we'll meet at Piazzetta Abramo Levi to start our Acqui Terme Guided Tour. For 6 hours we'll explore this spa town's old quarter and discover its history and monumental heritage.
We'll begin by casting our minds back to the Ancient Roman Empire, during which this town had great importance. Located in the Alto Monferrato hills, this settlement was well-known due to its thermal baths which also have medicinal properties.
Our next stop will be back in time to the Middle Ages, as we continue our tour through the Jewish quarter. We'll see the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, a Romanesque building that dates back to the 10th century. We'll step inside so we can admire the Triptych of the Virgin of Montserrat, an artistic masterpiece by the Spanish painter Bartolomé Bermejo.
The tour will continue on to the Addoralata Basilica. We'll admire the frescoes on the walls of this Romanesque temple, visit the Piazza Bollente and walk towards the Paleologi Castle. As we circle this fortress, we'll discuss its importance during the Middle Ages as a residence for bishops and governors and a place where many battles took place.
By this point you'll likely be peckish, so you'll have 2 hours of free time to eat lunch and have a rest. After lunch, we'll come back together and head to the Acqui Terme Roman Aqueduct, an iconic symbol of the city.
The guided tour will end between 3:30 pm and 4 pm next to the Ponte Carlo Alberto.
