At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Place Maréchal Foch, right in front of the statue of Napoleon Bonaparte, to begin our guided tour of Ajaccio. Ready to discover the capital of Corsica and the birthplace of the famous French emperor?
We'll start the tour by walking to the Fishermen's Harbour, where we'll learn about the context of the Genoese occupation of the city and its urban development.
From there, we'll head to the Citadelle d'Ajaccio, a 16th-century fortification that offers spectacular views of the bay and Saint François beach. We'll continue on to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, a 16th-century temple of great symbolic value during the Genoese period.
Afterwards, we'll enter the historic centre to explore its narrow streets until we reach the famous Maison Bonaparte, Napoleon's childhood home. We'll also stroll along Bonaparte Street, the former main entrance to the city, which was once restricted to the general public.
After this tour, we'll head to the central market of Ajaccio, where we'll spend 30 minutes getting to know the local products. Then, we'll head to a nearby gourmet grocery store to enjoy a tasting of Corsican products such as cold cuts, puff-pastry cheeses and traditional fritters.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point and say goodbye after a 2.5-hour tour.
