Tour of Alcazar de San Juan + El Hidalgo Museum
When the clock strikes 5:30 pm, we will meet up in the Plaza de España square to begin an interesting guided tour of Alcázar de San Juan.
We will start the tour admiring the façade of the Casa Consistorial, a late 19th-century building initially inaugurated to house a casino and not the Town Hall. While we contemplate this building we will tell you about the origins of Alcázar de San Juan, going back to the Stone Age!
In the Plaza de España, we will also see the sculptures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Is it true that Cervantes was born in Alcázar de San Juan? We will tell you about the exciting debate over the birthplace of the famous writer.
The tour will then take us to the exterior of the house of the Párraga family, a 17th-century hospital that will attract your attention with its well-kept stone portico. The tower of the Grand Prior, the church of Santa Maria, and several mansions and palaces are also located along the route.
The last stop on the tour will be the Casa del Hidalgo museum, a 16th-century house where you can find out what the knights who inspired the character of Don Quixote were really like. We will walk through the different rooms and the courtyard of this traditional La Mancha house discovering period coins, antique costumes, horse saddles, and other original pieces of the rural aristocracy of the time.
The tour will end with a farewell at 7 pm outside the museum.
