Trace the footsteps of one of the most famous Spanish poets and playwrights of all time on our Federico García Lorca Tour in Almería. You'll see the parts of Almería where he studied during this guided tour of the city.
Federico García Lorca Tour
"The most terrible of all feelings is the feeling of having dead hope". Beautiful quotes such as this one, from the play Blood Wedding, have made Federico García Lorca one of the greatest playwrights in Spanish theatre. We'll meet in the Plaza de la Catedral in Almería to discover fascinating details of his life and work, as he lived in this city for some time.
Following in the footsteps of the teacher from his hometown of Fuente Vaqueros in Granada, Antonio Rodríguez Espinosa, a young Lorca moved to Almería in 1906. We'll cast our minds back to this stage of the writer's life as we stand in the square named after his tutor, where we'll also find a bust of Lorca.
The new school of the teacher Rodríguez Espinosa (and of his pupil Lorca) was annexed to the old Provincial Hospital of Almería. We'll pause in front of its façade and discuss some key moments in Lorca's childhood, as he used to spend his free time running around the courtyard of the clinic.
Our tour will then take us to the School of Arts of Almería. Lorca first became interested in the written and performing arts in the classrooms of this very institution. He also enjoyed attending performances at the Apolo Theatre, which is the next stop on our tour.
To round off our tour, we'll head to the promenade of Avenida Federico García Lorca while we review some aspects of the writer's brilliant works. His life was tragically cut short by his assassination after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The poet described his own murder in Poet in New York, in which he wrote the following harrowing lines: "I understood that I had been murdered. […] They couldn't find me anymore. / They didn't find me? / No. They didn't."
