Get to know Jerash, the so-called "Pompeii of the East", on this fascinating day trip which includes a panoramic tour of Amman and a visit to the Medieval Ajloun Castle.

Amman, Jerash & Ajloun Castle Tour Itinerary

After being picked up from your hotel on the day of your excursion, you'll kick the day off with a panoramic tour of Amman. You'll be taken to see the city's most important streets before visiting the Citadel, a hill in the heart of Amman where Roman, Byzantine and Arab remains can be seen. You'll also see the Roman Theatre, which was built in the 2nd century and where cultural events and concerts are still held to this day.

Next, you'll head to Jerash, a city in the north of Jordan which has been called "the Pompeii of the East" for the quantity of Roman ruins there. Stroll through this ancient city and visit its most emblematic monuments: the triumphal Arch of Hadrian, the Oval Forum, the Colonnaded Street, the Temple of Artemis and the Theatre, where you'll see - or rather, hear - that the venue still has incredible acoustics several thousand years on!

Following your tour of Jerash, there will be a stop at a local restaurant where you'll take a well-earned break and enjoy a traditional lunch (not included).

You'll then continue to the next part of your tour, heading to Aljoun. Here, you'll explore the fortress constructed by the Muslims to defend themselves against the crusaders in the 12th century. From the lofty heights of the Aljoun Castle walls, you'll have spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.

At the end of your castle tour, you'll take the road back to Amman, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel.
