Discover the spectacular salt lagoon with this Laguna de Salinas Day Trip + Pichu Pichu Bike Tour from Arequipa. In addition to admiring the beauty of its landscape, you'll enjoy a descent down the Andes volcano, perfect for the more adventurous!
Laguna de Salinas Day Trip + Pichu Pichu Bike Tour
At 6 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa and head to the Laguna de Salinas. The salt lagoon is located more than 4300 metres (14100 feet) above sea level and between the Misti, Ubinas and Pichu Pichu volcanoes.
We'll travel past the Salinas and the Aguada Blanca National Reserve to reach the lagoon, surrounded by flora and fauna that will captivate you. We'll meet the llamas, alpacas and vicuñas that live in the area, as well as Andean foxes and Andean rabbits.
Another peculiarity of the Laguna de Salinas is the great number of flamingos that live in this natural environment. Did you know that it is the only place where you can observe three different species of these birds? Even the famous Nakuru and Naivasha lakes in Kenya don't have this, so make sure to capture this spectacular scene.
If it is dry, the lake will welcome us with a snow-white colour, and if there is water, we can approach the shore to admire the salt that accumulates there. Afterwards, we'll go to the village of Tambos to see the artisan exploitation of this product.
Around 12 pm, we'll begin the second part of the excursion and switch a 4x4 vehicle for a bicycle to begin the Pichu Pichu descent. We'll spend four hours enjoying a unique experience while admiring the volcanic landscape.
Then we'll leave the bikes and start to head back to Arequipa, stopping along the way in the traditional village of Chiguata. The tour will end at 4:30 pm at your hotel.
