Baiona Free Tour
Tour Details
We'll begin this free tour of the Galician town of Baiona at the indicated time at the arches of the Paseo Ribeira, in front of the Tourism Office.
Firstly, we'll take a stroll around Mount Boi. On this hill, we'll see the thick walls and battlements of Monterreal Castle, an imposing medieval fortress built to protect this strategic point on the Galician coast. The site also houses a monumental hotel, the Parador del Conde de Gondomar.
As we walk through this part of the town, we'll learn about the history of La Pinta. The arrival of this ship, belonging to Christopher Columbus, brought the news of the discovery of the New World. We'll also go back in time to remember the feared incursions on the Galician coasts of various corsairs and pirates, such as the famous Francis Drake.
We'll continue our route, discovering the history of a mysterious character named Pedro Madruga. Afterwards, we'll head to the historic centre of Baiona. There, we'll pass by the historic Casa de Correa and Casa del Perdón, and discover why this town in Pontevedra was considered one of the jewels of the Crown. In addition, during the tour, we'll see old photos of the town that will allow us to imagine what Baiona was like in the past.
Finally, after a total of 2 hours, we'll conclude our tour of Baiona back at the meeting point.
