Discover the secrets of the ancient Mayan civilization when you take this fascinating trip to the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave. You will encounter spooky human remains and hear the macabre stories behind them.
Actun Tunichil Muknal Trip
We'll pick you up at 8 am from your hotel in Belize City before setting off for the Montaña del Tapir Nature Reserve, about a 1 hour 40 minutes drive away. There you'll find the amazing Actun Tunichil Muknal, one of the most visited caves in the country!
Inside, among the tunnels and grottoes, we'll encounter 14 human skeletons that date back over a thousand years old. All of them were victims of one of the most deeply rooted traditions among the Mayas: the sacrifices in honour of the God Chaac.
We'll spend 3 hours exploring the different areas around Actun Tunichil Muknal. In one of them, we'll find the remains of the iconic Crystal Maiden. You'll also hear all about why she was buried next to ceramic pieces.
Back outside, we'll go to a local restaurant to enjoy a lunch consisting of rice, beans, chicken, and fried plantain. With our strength fully recharged, we'll return to Belize City and accompany you back to your hotel where the tour finishes at around 5 pm.
