Lamanai Trip
Feel like a true explorer when you take this trip to the archeological site of Lamanai. You'll sail along the Nuevo River and discover the ruins of one of the largest cities of the Mayan civilization.
Lamanai Trip
We'll pick you up at 6 am from your hotel in Belize City before heading to the Orange Walk district, which is about a three-hour drive away. Once there, we'll stop on the banks of the Nuevo (New) River and board a boat. Then we'll cruise along the water for the next two hours and see tropical birds, crocodiles, and even spider monkeys up close.
When we reach the Nuevo River Lagoon, we'll disembark and head to the entrance to the archeological site of Lamanai. This is the remains of one of the largest cities of the Mayan civilization. Then for two hours, we'll walk among houses, town squares, and ball game arenas, discovering how the Mayans lived around 1600 BC.
The tour will take us to the most important structures at Lamanai: the three pyramids. Stopping in front of each one, you'll hear all about the beliefs, rituals, and traditions of the Mayans. You'll also learn why chocolate was fundamental to this civilization. We'll also visit the Temple of the Jaguar, one of the sacred sites of the ancient city.
Later, we'll go to a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious lunch consisting of chicken, rice, beans, and fried plantain. We then return to Belize City and accompany you back to your accommodation where the tour finishes at 6 pm.
