Neues Museum of Berlin, One of the Largest Egyptian Collections in the World

Located on the famous Museum Island, the Neues Museum or New Museum of Berlin is one of the most visited museums in the German capital. Its exhibitions are divided into three large areas: the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Prehistoric and Early History Museum,  and the Collection of Classical Antiquities.

With this ticket, you can visit the rooms of the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection of Berlin with an audio guide in English. Through this device, you'll discover the story behind the main pieces of the permanent exhibition.

Without a doubt, the most notable treasure of the Egyptian collection in the Neues Museum is the famous bust of Nefertiti, the enigmatic wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. This piece, dating circa 1340 B.C., is known for its detailed features and great expressiveness.

Another must-see piece is the Berlin Green Head. This sculpture, made from greenschist, dates back to the year 500 B.C. and stands out due to its realism. You'll also see the stunning statues of Amenemhat III, an important pharaoh from the Twelfth Dynasty of Egypt.

The Egyptian Museum is one of the most iconic areas in the Neues Museum. Here, you'll admire a vast collection of papyrus. One of the most famous is the Westcar Papyrus, a literary work with a series of popular stories from Ancient Egypt, with tales of magic and other chronicles about the life of the pharaohs.

The visit with the audio guide lasts between 1 hour and 1.5 hours, although you can stay in the Egyptian rooms of the Neues Museum for as long as you want.

Opening Times

The Neues Museum opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.
