San Sebastian, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe & Guetaria Day Trip
At 8:30 am, we'll meet in front of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and set off on our day trip along the Basque Coast.
The first stop will be San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an islet that can only be reached by one path. This coastal setting and its rugged landscape has become famous in recent years due to Game of Thrones. Does Dragonstone ring any bells? We'll admire spectacular panoramic views of House Targaryen's ancestral home from the cliffs.
Next, we'll head to the town of Guetaria in the province of Guipuzcoa. When we get there, we'll take a guided tour of the historic centre and walk around the fishing port, the Church of San Salvador and the monument in honour of Juan Sebastián Elcano. This sailor, who was born in this small town, sailed around the world.
You'll have an hour and a half of free time here to eat lunch in one of the local restaurants and sample some of Guetaria's gastronomy. You'll find plenty of grilled fish when looking for somewhere to eat! The birthplace of txakoli wine, which has Guetaria as its designation of origin is also nearby.
Having reconvened, we'll set off for San Sebastian. We'll take a brief panoramic tour onboard the bus. Then we'll get off the bus and take a two-hour walking tour of the old town and visit the Church of San Vicente and the Basilica of Santa María del Coro. As we stroll through the city's Old Town, we'll be taken on a journey through its history.
We'll also bask in San Sebastian's incredible atmosphere as we walk through the Plaza Mayor and the Plaza de la Constitución on our way to the port, which holds great importance in the city.
Before finishing our tour, we'll stop at the famous bay of La Concha. We'll then head to the green lung of the city, Gipuzkoa Square, before admiring Urumea River and its bridges from Okendo Square.
It'll then be time to return to Bilbao, where we'll say our goodbyes at 6:30 pm.
