La Candelaria Neighborhood Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we'll begin this free tour of the neighborhood of La Candelaria from the Plaza del Chorro de Quevedo. Did you know that Bogotá was founded here in 1538?
After discovering the history of this important event, we'll stroll toward the Plaza del Mercado de La Concordia, where we'll enjoy a tasting of exotic Colombian fruits.
We'll continue our tour along the cobblestone streets of La Candelaria, where we'll admire the beautiful Colonial houses with wooden balconies. Our next stop will be at the Parque de los Periodistas, where you'll discover why it's a popular meeting point. Very close by, you'll find the Plaza Santander, where we'll pass the Museum of Gold and the Banco de la República.
Then, we'll discuss El Bogotazo and the consequences that this tragic event in La Candelaria brought. Afterward, we'll continue exploring the neighborhood in the Plaza de Bolívar. Here, in the political heart of Bogotá, you'll see the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Bogotá and Primate of Colombia, the National Capitol of Colombia, the Palace of Justice of Colombia, and the Alcaldía Mayor (Mayor's Office) from outside.
Finally, we'll pass the Teatro Colón and the San Carlos Palace. After an approximately 3-hour walking tour, we'll conclude our tour at a café surrounding the palace. Here, we'll enjoy an authentic Colombian coffee made by a barista. The perfect way to end the tour!
