No trip to Australia is complete without visiting one of the most impressive places in the world: the Great Barrier Reef. With this three-day trip, you'll see for yourself why it's on most people's bucket list!
Great Barrier Reef Tour
At 7:15 am we'll meet at At the New Brisbane Coach Terminal, ready to set off to our first stop, Australia Zoo.
Located on Queensland's sunshine coast, we'll reach the zoo in less than an hour. This is more than a zoo, it's the biggest and best wildlife conservation facility in the entire world and was founded by no other than the Irwin family. The family still runs the facility and their passion for wildlife conservation is contagious! Here, children and adults alike can learn about the country's exotic animals, including giant tortoise and adorable koalas and you can even say hello to some friendly kangaroos. This zoo is the home of the Crocodile Hunter, and so before we leave, we'll also a crocodile show.
After this wild visit, we'll continue to Kelly's Beach Resort, which will be our home for the next two days. Once you've settled in, we'll head down to the beach where you can enjoy a guided snorkelling tour.
Next, we'll visit a truly special place, the Mon Repos Turtle Centre. This is a sea turtle conservation centre, where you'll learn all about these interesting reptiles and can see them up close. Plus, if you visit between November and March, you'll even see how the turtles make their way to the shore to lay their eggs. Or, if you visit in February, you might even see the turtles hatching and making their way to the sea.
We'll start the day by setting sail on a luxurious boat which will take us to the Great Barrier Reef. As we sail around this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll be able to admire the incredible surroundings and you might even spot a dolphin swimming next to the boat. Plus, if you visit between June and November, you might even catch a glimpse of a humpback whale!
We'll stop the boat at the chosen place that day, and you'll be able to jump overboard and explore the world's largest coral reef system. If the views from on deck were impressive, wait until you see the reef from the water! We'll provide you with snorkel equipment so that you can discover its beauty up close. If you're not a fan of the water, don't worry, you can take a glass-bottom boat, enabling you to admire the reef without jumping into the sea.
After exploring the Great Barrier Reef, we'll make a stop at Lady Musgrave Island. Here, we'll take an enjoyable stroll around the island and we'll try to spot some of the native, exotic birds that inhabit this area. Finally, we'll make our way back to the hotel.
On the third and final day, you'll have free time in the morning. You could use this time to relax at the pool or beach, or you could enjoy a supplementary activity available in the area such as going diving, taking a surf class or even visiting a rum distillery.
After lunch, we'll take the bus back to Brisbane, where we'll arrive at about 6:30 pm.
